ST PANCRAS CRUISING CLUB
STUDY
Design feasibility and costs to replace the existing St Pancras Cruising Clubhouse in King's Cross. The study examined how best to revitalise and give a new identity to the St Pancras Cruising Club, which is of both local and national importance within the UK's canal network.
A careful balance was needed calling for a respect of the historic context with a need to attract users and generate revenue from a thriving club community, including maintaining the only dry dock in central London.
Options explored a 'dispersed design' that opened up views of the locality and provide the programme flexibility needed by a waterway community. This included the design of a new terraced garden, public toilets, community meeting and conference areas and a boat repair and maintenance workshop.
Services included advice on lottery applications and funding from British Waterways for the new clubhouse.
